Build this
Pedestal Drop Leaf
Table

Here is the original article straight from
Book No. 4557, 40 Fine Delta Tables
A Deltacraft Publication
DELTA MFG. DIVISION

Two features a little out of the ordinary are shown in the construction of this table. The first of these has table. The first of these has to do with the manner in which the corners are turned from the square sections of the pedestal; the second the use of a segment pattern in shaping the top.

Stock for the turning should be squared up accurately. The reduced square at the lower end can be cut to size on the jointer. Accurate centering of the work in the lathe is important. In turning the square sections, the work should be stopped frequently for examination until the desired shape is obtained. The top of the table is 1/4 inch stock, 20 inches in diameter, made in three pieces with standard rule joint. The rule joint is made with the work in the square, after which the hinges are fitted and the circular shape sawn about 1/16 inch oversize on the band saw. Shaping is done with the use of a segment pattern. This works on a pivot to insure accurate placement, and is anchored around the work by means of nails. The pattern is shifted as required until the complete edge is shaped. The moulding shown requires a special knife, which can be ground from a standard 1 inch straight knife. The same moulding is used on the wings, these also being shaped with the use of a pattern. Legs are cut from 7/8-inch stock, doweled in place.
