Hack #2 Grill Bracket for Swing Arm.

I had purchased the Weber Go-Anywhere Gas Grill as I have used one before and liked it.

Now I need a simple way to mount it to the swing arm. I knew I could make my own system similar to the one I thought I was getting with the arm. This actually turned out to be a very easy project. I purchased some ½” aluminum channel from Lowes and had all the others parts on hand.

I cut two pieces 15″ long for the drop arms and two 14″ long for the fixed top arms – with a hacksaw. I then cut notches into the top arms to fit over the top of the bumper mount. I made rotating tabs to lock it in place securely while in use by modifying an everyday ‘L’ bracket. First, cut one side off short enough to fit under the lip of the bumper mount plate (*1) then bend the other side back to make an ‘S’ shape – allowing enough distance to swing under the lip (*2). Mark where you need to drill the hole in the top of arm (*3) leaving about 1/8″ of play to allow the bracket to swing around or it will be too tight to swing against the mounting plate.

Attach the tab to the fixed top arm with a bolt and flat washer – then through the arm – then a flat washer (wider than the arm) and a self locking nut (or 2 nuts). Super glue the washer to the arm to keep it centered during use.
Drill a 1/8″ pilot hole through the side of the other end of the fixed arm (opposite the notched end) and about 3/4″ from the end – going through both sides of the U channel and another pilot hole 5 1/2 inches from it (toward the notched end). Position the arm against the side of the grill – below the handle and firmly against it. Mark the locations of the two pilot holes on the grill (with a pencil or scratch awl).
Drill a pilot hole through the drop arm about 1/4″ from the end. Cut a notch in the end of the drop arm so you can bend it back later. Be sure to cut one arm for the left and one for the right.

Locate 2 bolts 1″ long to bolt the arms to the grill . Drill a hole through the marked spot near the front of the grill for the bolt to go through. Use pliers to bend the cut tab back then drill the pilot hole to pass the bolt through as well as the pilot holes in the drop arm. The bolt should slide through but not be too loose. Insert the bolt through the hole in the drop arm, a flat washer, the fixed arm, the side of the grill a lock washer and a nut. Bend the tab back down.

I secured the center of the fixed arm to the grill with a rivet but you can use a bolt and nut. Drill a hole, the appropriate size for the rivet or bolt, through the other mark in the side of the grill and through the pilot hole in the arm on the side against the grill. Bolt, or rivet, it to the grill.

Repeat this for the arms on the other side.
The metal bars that form the feet and serve to lock the grill shut must be installed to lock the top and have to be removed and switched around to convert for table-top use.

Your unit is now complete. Flipping the swivel tabs will hold the two arms together during storage.
To hang it on the swing arm:
1. Close the grill and latch it shut.
2. Set the notch in the fixed rail on the top lip of the swing arm.

3. Swing the tab under the lip to secure the arm.
4. Position the drop arms to rest on the lower lip of the swing arm panel.
5. Connect to gas source.
Enjoy your grill.
