The Grand Design XLS 22MLE
While looking over the Grand Design Imagine 2250, we discovered the Grand Design Imagine XLS 22MLE. At first glance, we were not crazy that it had a pull-curtain room divider for the bedroom instead of a wall but then we saw what we thought was not to be found. It met all of our other wants plus it had two seating options. It came with theater seating and a dinette area.
It comes in just over 26’ length and it weighs in at only 5176 lbs (empty) with only 490lbs hitch weight.
The trick is in the curtain in place of the wall. We thought this over and decided that is fine. You can’t see through a wall but you can’t see through the curtain. You can hear through the curtain but you can also hear through those (thin) walls,
A big plus is how open the unit feels when you draw the curtain back (just make the bed and don’t be a pig).
It has a decent counter next to the bathroom sink and a larger rectangular shower.
The kitchen counter is rather roomy for a smaller trailer.
It offers a good amount of storage plus numerous other favorable qualities.
Grand Design has a great reputation (as far as RV manufacturers go) and everyone we spoke to likes them.
All that is left is finding a dealer and getting a good price.
We found two local dealers within an hour of home and went to work. They ended up giving better and better offers as we let them play against each other. In the end the deals were very close but one was a bit cheaper and they offered to store the unit in their storage lot while we wait to get an extension to the driveway, with extra parking space for the trailer, poured with concrete.
That’s where we are now. It’s too cold to pour concrete now but we might get a nice warm spell before spring actually arrives. We have our estimates on the concrete work now and are just waiting. It may have to wait for spring but we are hoping for a solid warm spell so we can bring it home and start figuring out how we want to pack it. Hmmmmm . . . . This weekend would have been great for camping… ..
Knowing that campground reservations for weekends, and especially holidays, fill up early, we already have a few reservations set up.
We are moving ahead and looking forward to spring.
