Safe

Hack #35 Add a secure safe for small valuables.

Add a small safe to keep valuables in when you have to leave them in your RV.
You will want to be able to lock up rings, watches, and valuables when you take off for certain activities – like white water rafting.
This safe is small enough to be mounted inside the small clothes closet next to the 22MLE bed without eliminating much hanging space. This places it out of sight and even hides it quite well if you have a good bit of clothing hanging in the closet.
Be sure that the safe can be secured to the inside of your closet area. It should have holes in the bottom. If not, you can drill some. (Drill them far apart.)
You will want to bolt the safe to the floor of the closet area.
Remove the top drawer that is under the closet. Measure the distance to the back of the area the drawer goes into. You will want to drill the mounting holes about 1” in front of the back of the space.
To make it more secure, obtain a piece of flat metal to be used as a huge ‘washer’. This would prevent a big oaf from just ripping it out of the wood – washers and all. Drill holes in this big washer to line up with those in the safe. The larger this ‘washer’, the more secure the safe will be. At least use large flat washers.
Drill the holes through the bottom of the closet. Use the holes in the bottom of the safe to mark where to drill.

Once all the holes are drilled, simply bolt the unit in place. Use super glue or Loc-tite to make sure the bolts do not work loose.
