Hack #31 Travel stop for big drawer under oven.
An annoying item we encountered was having the big drawer under the oven pop open while traveling. We store our cast iron pots and pans there so the weight is just too much for normal catches to hold.
For a while, we wedged one of our hiking sticks behind the oven handle and in front of the drawer but this was not a permanent solution.
This can be resolved a multitude of ways. A hook and eye does the trick if you don’t mind the hokey appearance of it. You could always add extra cabinet catches beside the existing one but that might still not be enough.
My solution is a simple block of wood.
Cut a piece of scrap wood to 4¾” long.
Notch it so the lip is ½” deep and the main part is 4¼” long. The lip should be about ½” thick.
Make sure the front lower lip is sharp cut then sand all the rest of it smooth and finish with paint or stain.
Just place it with the tab under the lip of the drawer and the other edge against the slide trim and will keep the drawer closed.
