Hack #24 Basement (Front Pass-Through) Storage (V2).
Another owner made this version. He used a prefab slide out system. It was the Aluminum Basket Style Hitch Cargo Carrier from Home Depot (about $90). Here is his posting:
This is not for everyone as you give up 2½” of vertical space to clear the lip of cabin door. However, nothing failed to clear height (I only had to unscrew handle from Foreman Grill), I am really glad I did this.
I made the frame from 1”x 2” select pine stacked parallel and polypropylene strips cut from a sheet to create a firm slick slide.
I put 6” stainless bars 1/8” x 1½”, slightly bent at top, to hold slide down in case of major shift (not absolutely necessary to be that long and over the top and they can catch stored items if they go over rail.
Attached with #12 bolts through and #10 wood screws hold the stainless bars.
Frame is secured to floor and I beam with 1/4 bolts (very secure, not too hard to hit correctly).
The slide itself is about perfect width almost 23” x 60” long $90 on amazon or home depot (they easily get damaged in transit home depot you can look at it before it comes home).
I like it, holds a lot, slides easy way out and secure without a supporting leg.
I made a commercial rubber backed entry carpet from from home depot. It bridges gaps well.
The whole unit weighs like 20lbs and performs very well.
